We are proud to be Delaware's premier and most popular field hockey instructional organization. The partnership between Kirkwood Sports, New Castle County Parks & Recreation, and Delaware Sharks Field Hockey Club provides kids of all ages and skills hockey opportunities throughout the entire calendar year, and is part of USA Field Hockey's Fundamental Field Hockey program.

Field Hockey Developmental Program

Kirkwood Sports Field Hockey programs focus on developing superior basic skills and active decision-making in preparation for the high school game of field hockey. Our emphasis on multiple touches on the ball effectively builds solid stick skills, decision making, and speed of play. The program runs on our Bermuda grass fields for first through eighth graders, and focuses on learning the game of field hockey in a fun, noncompetitive, supporting  atmosphere.

Levels:

Achievers League:

  • 6th - 8th graders, also considers experienced 5th graders.  It includes two 25-minute small-sided games per session plus an opportunity for skill development drills.
  • There are no additional practices- we learn as we play.
  • 90-minute Spring/Fall sessions are held on Sundays at the Kirkwood Sports Complex in New Castle, DE and the program is run with the support of Delaware Sharks Field Hockey Club.  See Kirkwood website seasonally for summer/winter dates.

Hot Shots:

  • Same format as Achievers but for 3rd-5th grade. Experienced 2nd graders can be considered. Ninety-minute program held Sunday afternoons in spring/fall.

Pixie Sticks:

  • A recreational skills clinic for 1st and 2nd graders. It includes basic instruction, fun skill drills, and mini-games as we grow our skills. One hour program on Sunday afternoons in Sping/fall

BabySharks- new!!

  • Ages 3-5, PARENT participation, 45-minute program on Sundays in spring/fall
  • Introduce a little friend to the awesome game of field hockey thru games and friendships.
  • Come have a whole lotta fun and be prepared to laugh!
